Wycombe Abbey Archer Concert 2023

Remembrance Sunday was an exciting and busy day for the Music Department, with the Chapel Choir providing music for the Service of Remembrance in the morning and our Senior Ensembles preparing for the Archer Concert in the evening.

This year’s Archer Concert featured the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras alongside Chapel Choir, Holst Singers and Stage Band. We were able to showcase three of our Upper Sixth musicians, with Megan and Eva performing movements of Mozart Violin Concertos with orchestral accompaniment and Amelia singing three beautiful Lieder from Schumann’s song cycle, Frauenlieben und Leben. Symphony Orchestra performed a little-known overture from the opera Donna Diana by Reznicek, whilst Chamber Orchestra performed two movements from Grieg’s Holberg Suite. Chapel Choir and Holst Singers sang works ranging from a Britten Shakespeare setting through to McBrooms’ popular song, The Rose.

The concert closed with Stage Band’s first appearance at the Archer Concert. They joined forces with Chamber Orchestra to accompany Sophia singing two classic jazz standards: At Last and Dream a Little Dream of Me in arrangements by Mr Ledingham.

Special mention must also go to Poppy (Upper Sixth) for her excellent Last Post at the Service of Remembrance.
