Welcome to our New Staff
9 September 2024 - All

The start of a new academic year is always a busy time, and it is particularly so for our new staff whom we welcome to Wycombe Abbey.
This year, we have had a number of key staff join the School due to the expansion of our curriculum and the retirement of long-serving members of our community.
- Rowland Hawkins rejoins Wycombe Abbey as Teacher of Design Technology.
- We welcome Stephen Ramsay as Teacher of History (maternity cover).
- James Bamforth joins Wycombe Abbey as part-time Teacher of Classics. James joins us from Pangbourne College where he was Head of Sixth Form and Head of Classics.
- Our Music department welcomes Martyn Parkes as Head of Keyboard, based in our newly refurbished Goodland Music School.
- Charlotte Durden joins our Geography Department as Teacher of Geography.
- Within the Computer Science Department, Sharon Ettridge and Samuel Wilson join us as Teachers of Computer Science.
- Sophie Tebbs joins us as Teacher of PE.
- Kenny Scupp joins the Sixth Form team as Head of US and International Universities to support girls with their overseas university applications. He will work closely with the Sixth Form team and with Ed Tourle who remains with the School on a consultancy basis until January.
- We welcome Jessica Venner as our new Archivist who will develop and preserve our current archive.
- Lisa Garcia joins as Housemistress of Airlie.
- Ella Calder joins as Head of PSHE and will build on the excellent foundations put in place by Sophie Blunt.
- We are excited to welcome Padre Paul Stanaway who replaces Rev Penny Nash as our Chaplain and will be a key member of our pastoral team.
We also have some internal moves and promotions:
- Sophie Blunt takes up the role of Director of Safeguarding and Pupil Welfare and joins the Executive Leadership Team.
- James Young replaces Sue Buxton as Head of Science following Sue’s retirement after 29 years with the School. We are fortunate that Sue is not completely leaving – she will return to teach Physics two days per week for the coming academic year.
- Within the Sixth Form team, Olly Murphy takes up his new role as Deputy Head of Sixth Form and Emma Bowen moves into the role of Head of Higher Education.
- Ka Ho Wong has been promoted to Head of Computer Science following the retirement of Adrian Porter after 27 years at Wycombe Abbey.
- Jessica Woodward moves into the role of Housemistress of Wendover following Sophie Blunt’s departure from the role.
- Sophie McIvor takes up the role of Head of French.
I’m sure you will join me in welcoming all our new staff and congratulating our current staff on their new appointments. We look forward to working together over the coming years.
