Planting New Fruit Trees

Wycombe Abbey took part in the BSA’s Boarding Orchard initiative by planting a tree in the School grounds on 13 October 2016.

The tree, a Kidd’s Orange Red, was planted next to the site of the two new boarding houses alongside the other existing apple trees. A short ceremony was held attended by the Headmistress, Mrs Wilkinson, the Director of the BSA, Robin Fletcher, the Head Girl Team and members of staff responsible for sustainability and the School’s Green Society.

The initiative promoted by the BSA has been running since 2014 and has seen more than 100 boarding schools plant new fruit trees. The orchard is set to become the UK’s largest, with schools from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England taking part. Each tree symbolises a commitment to growth and care for the environment.
