A Lesson about Law and Justice

On 24 April, a ten-strong delegation of LV and LVI Law Society pupils travelled to central London for an inter-school mock trial experience at the City of London School for Girls and a Q&A with a City law firm.

Despite a highly commended effort from barristers Clelia (LV) and Annika (LV), the defendant Ambika (LVI) was convicted by a partisan audience for stealing a book from Shakespeare’s third folio. The group then walked to Liverpool Street, where we had a tour of a large City law firm and a Q&A with trainees. We learned about the firm’s core operations and the experience of being a trainee, which is varied but intellectually challenging. Later, the group went to the Old Bailey to see a case, but unfortunately, we were turned away because of a lack of public seats!

Nevertheless, it was an excellent day, which gave the pupils some insight into the legal profession and how the justice system works.
