Wycombe Abbey’s Andalusian Adventure
9 November 2024 - All

The Andalusian sun was a generous and glowing host for the Spanish LV and UV pupils over the October Long Leave. The trip was designed to offer them a taste of authentic Spanish life, and both the monumental beauty of Seville and the endless charm of the port city of Cádiz met the brief.

The group spent a full day in Seville, the capital of Andalusia, exploring key sites linked to Christopher Columbus and the discovery of the Americas, including the Reales Alcázares and the Giralda Tower, which offers stunning panoramic views of the city. Our visit to the Plaza de España was a highlight, with its cinematic setting showcasing the pinnacle of Spanish architectural skill and artistic flair.

In Cádiz, our pupils attended CLIC International House, a renowned language school, where they participated in a lively programme of Spanish lessons tailored for them. Their enthusiasm and ’Viva la Vida’ spirit shone in the classroom, as they put their language skills into practice with energy and confidence.

Beyond the classroom, Cádiz and its warm-hearted locals, known as Los Gaditanos, provided eye-opening cultural experiences. From tasting fresh seafood at the bustling city market to an unforgettable Flamenco show, pupils were captivated by the rich traditions of Andalusian life.

The Andalusian tour will now join the Sixth Form immersion trip to Salamanca as one of the Spanish Department’s main extra-curricular offerings, providing our budding hispanists with the most enriching experiences.
