Wycombe Abbey at the British School Girls Races 2017

The Wycombe Abbey A and B Ski Teams took part in the British Schools Girls Ski Races held in Flaine on 30-31 January. 34 schools brought 50 teams and the150 racers skied for medals and prizes.

Our A Team, comprising of three girls, did incredibly well winning 18 medals and three trophies between them. In the Giant Slalom, our A Team came first place, beating 46 other teams and were presented with gold medals and a trophy awarded by The British Independent Schools Ski Racing Association for the First Unregistered Team in the Giant Slalom. In the Slalom, the A Team finished in second place and were presented with silver medals. They also came second in the combined Giant Slalom and Slalom.

Our captain, Alisha, was awarded a gold medal and trophy for the Best Unregistered U18 in the Giant Slalom, a prize the School last won in 2005. She also finished in second place in the registered section beating an England racer and 24 other skiers by four seconds. Lydia was awarded a gold medal and trophy for the Best Unregistered Skier in the Giant Slalom, silver in the Slalom and gold for the combined Giant Slalom and Slalom. She was also awarded a silver medal in the registered section, beating 16 registered skiers. Maddie was awarded silver in the U16 age group in the Slalom, bronze medal in the Giant Slalom and silver overall in the unregistered section. She also won silver in the overall result beating 19 registered skiers.

The B Team of Skye, Luli and Celina-Anne should be commended for their effort and particular credit should be given to Imogen who, as our reserve, won a silver team medal when she raced in Alisha’s place in the A Team Slalom.

Many congratulations to all our skiers but special thanks to Alisha and Lottie our Ski Captains who have given so much to the Wycombe Abbey Ski Teams over the years.
