World Book Day 2026!

Last week, we had a wonderful week of celebrations for World Book Day! While many of our pupils (and staff!) love to read, it is wonderful to be able to really celebrate a joy of reading with this special week.

Our celebrations began with the ever-popular Scholastic Book Fair. Whole classes of pupils visited during their English lessons and the Book Fair was popular at break and tea too. This year, we will again be donating our commission to a local primary school to enable them to buy new books for their school library. This was our best-selling year yet and I’m thrilled that, in a national reading crisis, so many of our pupils love to buy books.

On World Book Day itself, pupils and staff dressed up to celebrate books they love. It was wonderful to see so many ensemble costumes this year and I loved the variety of outfits that we had. Cosy Day was also back in Fisher Library by popular demand and it was lovely to see so many pupils enjoying some quiet time to read, with a hot chocolate in hand.

LIV attended workshops with Desree, a spoken word artist, and she encouraged them to write and perform their own poems. She then delivered a performance of some of her own poetry to LIV and UIV in the evening, earning a standing ovation from some of the pupils for her inspiring performance.

We are so lucky to be part of such a wonderful School community and I hope that everyone will be inspired to continue reading.
