Weekends at Wycombe Abbey

Last weekend was filled with exciting activities, offering Wycombe Abbey pupils a fantastic mix of sport, creativity and adventure.

On Saturday afternoon, a series of competitive lacrosse fixtures took place against Haberdashers’ Girls’ School and Abbot’s Hill School. The teams performed exceptionally well, winning seven and drawing two of the 11 matches – well done to all players! For those not involved in lacrosse, arts and crafts sessions, cookery and Archery Rampage were also on offer.

Pupils sat on deck chairs and picnic blankets, watching a film on a large screen in front of the Abbey at night.

As evening approached, pupils gathered for an outdoor cinema screening of Mamma Mia in front of the Abbey. The cosy setup of blankets, popcorn and ice cream created a charming outdoor theatre with many pupils singing along to ABBA’s greatest hits. Following the film, 32 pupils participated in the Camp Out activity, embracing the outdoor adventure, despite the heavy rain.

The excitement continued with a thrilling trip to Thorpe Park on Sunday, with over 120 pupils enjoying the adrenaline rush of the rollercoasters, with many highlighting the new Hysteria ride, which reaches speeds of up to 80 mph, as their favourite of the day. Meanwhile, the UIII pupils enjoyed an outing to the local bowling alley, testing their skills and bonding outside of their usual boarding environment, which helps strengthen friendships and foster a sense of community, with one pupil remarking, ‘It was such a fun way to end the weekend!’

Reflecting on previous weekends this academic year, we have offered an exciting range of weekend activities including the Headmistress’ picnic at Wendover Woods, where the UII girls had a fantastic time at Go Ape, sports trials, a lively House quiz night, a trip to Whipsnade Zoo, the annual funfair on site and a theatre trip to London to watch The Play That Goes Wrong to name a few.

Overall, it’s been a fantastic start to the Autumn Term, offering a variety of experiences for all pupils to enjoy.

Fun and relaxation are at the heart of the balanced lifestyle that Wycombe Abbey provides. Offering a wide range of activities at the weekends and during the week to suit every girl’s interest is key. It gives them time to relax, switch off, and spend quality time with their friends and by themselves.
