Super Start for the Sixth Form
26 September 2024 - Academic

As part of the Sixth Form Carrington Programme, girls attend numerous talks throughout the year and hear from an exciting and diverse lineup of speakers. So far this term, the girls have heard from Bonita Norris, the youngest British woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest (achieved at the age of 22), Debbie Wosskow, an ambassador for women in entrepreneurship, and Wycombe Abbey Senior Shivani Singhal (Butler, 2008), who spoke about her inspiring career providing educational opportunities in India. Future speakers will include Wycombe Abbey Senior and F1 content creator and journalist, Lissie Mackintosh (Airlie, 2018), and Simon Parker giving a very timely talk on the US elections.

The Carrington Programme is our bespoke enrichment provision, which provides diverse and forward-thinking activities for the girls, enabling them to develop beyond the curriculum. It ensures pupils are prepared for the many challenges they will face in their personal and professional adult lives. It aims to develop the girls’ abilities in leadership, responsibility and global thinking, confidence and self-reliance, creativity and vision, and critical thinking and intellectual curiosity.
In addition to hearing from a variety of speakers, the girls will also take part in workshops, the Communications Conference and the Wycombe Management Conference. They will also attend University Preparation Lessons and electives designed to stretch them beyond the A level syllabus.
To wind down after a busy week of lessons and enrichment, the girls can enjoy the weekly Sixth Form Café, a chance to come together and enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed atmosphere. Once a term the Sixth Form Café turns into the Super Sixth Form Café where there is entertainment and games on offer. On 20 September, the first Super Sixth Form Café of the year was Scandinavian themed with a smorgasbord of food on offer which included Swedish meatballs, gravlax and doughnuts. Following dinner, they were treated to some lively karaoke renditions of Abba hits, while those keener on a quieter night could make the most of the Hygge corner. Dress-up was encouraged, and there was a wide variety of colourful outfits on show!
