Understanding the Legal World with Mr Logan Mair.

This week, we were delighted to welcome Mr Logan Mair, a partner at the London-headquartered international law firm Ashurst, to Wycombe Abbey. His visit was a fantastic opportunity for us to gain real-world insights into the legal profession through an engaging and thought-provoking talk.
Mr Mair shared not only his experience in the defence sector but also introduced a range of case studies which enlightened us to the variety of situations that lawyers face. These included a truck cartel and a complex, multi-jurisdictional supply agreement in which we had to think through both commercial and legal implications. It was fascinating to see how real-world legal problems require not just knowledge of the law, but also an understanding of business strategy and international cooperation.
Throughout the session, Mr Mair made the point that it is paramount for lawyers to advise on business and commercial implications as well as black-letter law: in short, a good practitioner is a versatile one. This message really stood out to us, as it highlighted the importance of adaptability and broad thinking in the legal profession.
The talk gave us a deeper appreciation of the challenges and responsibilities lawyers face, and sparked interest in how law interacts with global industries and commercial decision-making.
