UIV’s Activity Day: Exploring Space and Scaling New Heights.
27 October 2025 - All

For their Activity Day, UIV embarked on an out of this world adventure as well as trekking through tree-top trails. Read more about their trip below:
‘On the first day of our Activity Day weekend, we visited the National Space Centre. As we approached the entrance, we were immediately struck by the impressive 42m high Rocket Tower, home to the Blue Streak and Thor Able rockets, the Apollo Lunar Lander and even a piece of real moon rock.
To begin the day, we explored lots of galleries and exhibitions where our favourites included the life-size mock-up of the Columbus Module from the International Space Station and the quirky, gravity-simulating space toilet in the Into Space gallery. Inside the Rocket Tower, there were plenty of interactive experiences, such as the Gagarin Experience, which recreated what Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, might have felt on his pioneering mission.

In the afternoon, we began an immersive challenge set in a Mars-based laboratory. Working as a team, we had to solve complex problems under pressure, survive a fierce sandstorm and even discover potential signs of life on Mars.
We also enjoyed a film in the UK’s largest planetarium, where we learned about astronaut training, daily life in space and the physical effects of space travel.

We ended our visit with a stop at the Space Centre shop, where we picked up souvenirs to remember the day. From there, we headed back to the hotel and after a tasty dinner, we rounded off the evening with a lively general knowledge quiz. Congratulations to Butler for the win!
The following day we visited Beaumanor Hall for a day full of outdoor activities. We started on the High Ropes, with an adventure course including rope climbing walls and balancing challenges. We moved onto the zipline, which was super exciting! Finally, we did the vertical challenge, climbing up rope, tyres and poles!

After lunch, we headed over to the ‘nightline’. Once blindfolded, we began our course. Using the rope, we navigated over, under and through a variety of obstacles. Teamwork and communication skills were key for this activity! Then, we did archery, where our instructors added challenges to our aiming to make it even more competitive!

To end the day, we attempted some team challenges- although they seemed tricky to begin with, after we figured out how to do them it was very rewarding. We then had a well-deserved and delicious supper before we were very sad to get on the bus for the drive back.’
A big thank you to all the staff that helped organise the trip!
