LIV’S Trip to Normandy.
27 October 2025 - All

In September, LIV pupils visited Normandy for a weekend immersed in French culture and language. Read what they got up to below:
Thursday 25 September
‘On the first day of our trip, we woke up early and set off to the coach to begin the long journey to France.
We arrived at LeShuttle near Dover after passing some beautiful countryside, and after going through passport control, we boarded the shuttle and travelled through the underwater tunnel. There, we ate some breakfast and completed part of our French booklet that we’d been given to complete throughout the trip.
After arriving in France, we set off for our first destination which was a traditional bakery. As we went in, the smell of freshly baked bread was mouth-watering. The owner of the shop was very kind and welcoming as he showed us around the kitchen. He taught us how to make bread, and we learnt many French baking words as we took turns rolling the dough and putting it in the oven.

We were all given pain au chocolat to eat and they were delicious, sweet and flaky! We also had the chance to buy our own pastries, such as baguettes and éclairs. It was a delightful and tasty experience, and I would love to visit again!
Our next stop was a snail farm, where we learnt a lot about how they are farmed and discovered many interesting facts about them. After the talk, we got to hold some snails and some people were even brave enough to put them on their faces! Before leaving, we had the chance to try some cooked snails with different sauces. Some people found them really tasty, while others chose not to try them. We all had fun and made lots of memories.

Friday 26 November
‘On Friday morning, we headed to a traditional French market, something many of us were really looking forward to! The bus journey there was full of excitement. When we arrived, we were told our task: to find a yummy filling for our baguettes.
We got into groups and began exploring. Our group first did a big loop of the market, browsing the stalls before starting to buy some things. We bought our fillings and even managed a bit of bargaining! Once we had everything, we walked to a nearby park, where we sat down to eat. We found this activity the best, as we got to be independent and have lots of fun!

In the afternoon, we visited a biscuit factory. It was fascinating to see how they maintained such high quality while producing biscuits on a large scale. We were lucky enough to sample some delicious shortbread before saying au revoir and heading off to our next stop.
We then visited the beach for a short break, where we admired the beautiful scenery and collected shells, before travelling to a chocolaterie. We all loved Simon’s engaging tour and sampled some delicious praline, pistachio and white chocolates. It was truly enthralling to see how different types of chocolate were created. After a long but enjoyable day, we returned to our accommodation for a well-deserved rest.

We all made so many wonderful memories and would like to thank all the teachers and staff at each of our venues in Normandy who made this a truly fantastic trip.’
