Sports Dinner

The biennial Sports Dinner was held in May this term to celebrate the achievements of our senior sports performers across a range of sports. The evening featured the handover of School Sport Prefect from Issy to Temi, awards for commitment and exceptional performance in the different year groups, and other awards such as the Sportsmanship Award, Team of the Year and PE Department Award. Additionally, Miss Keens was given special recognition for her 24 years of service to the PE Department. She will be greatly missed when she leaves us at the end of the year.

Mark Foster, World Champion and Olympic swimmer, was our guest speaker. He spoke about how, when he started swimming, his motivation was to consistently better himself in the hope that one day, he would win an Olympic gold medal. He also talked about the pride he felt at being selected as the flag bearer for Team GB at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, before entertaining us with stories about his exploits in Strictly Come Dancing and as a commentator.

Throughout the evening various activities took place such as a quiz, and heads and tails. A raffle and silent auction were held with incredible prizes available in both. Approximately £3000 was raised during the event which will be donated to the PE Department fund, and the School Charities War Child and Place2Be. The event culminated in the jazz band performing dancefloor fillers and pupils, parents and staff dancing the night away!

We would like to thank everyone involved in making the evening a huge success, including the individuals, families and businesses who donated items for the event. Congratulations to all sports performers and we wish all the best to the Clarence leavers, who will be continuing their sporting participation elsewhere.
