The Wycombe Abbey Library offers pupils the opportunity to learn, explore, and make connections together – an effort led by the new Head Librarian Ms Jo Sergeant, who has over 20 years’ experience matching books to readers.

As the Head Librarian, Ms. Sergeant oversees the curation of all books and electronic databases selecting a diverse range of titles that speak and address the needs of diverse users, with a keen eye to inclusion and authenticity. A service that has adapted to new restrictions – from offering assistance with new databases to providing a safe library.
Library Resources are Invaluable
For Noor Mitchell, library resources, have been invaluable to her EPQ research. “So far, I have utilised JSTOR, Google Scholar, and the online school library resources such as Heritage Online. Within Heritage Online, it was quite easy to search relevant books about my topic though the engineering and science section is slightly limited. I have managed to find the book ‘Hydrogen: the essential element’ which will be quite useful for incorporating physics into the production of hydrogen fuel cells. It is also nice to browse the shelves, especially as I have tutor time in Dove library which gives me plenty of time to look through the Physics section including Particle Physics and Renewable Energy topics.”
‘Respect’: the Theme for Reading Week
A core aspect of the Library programme is the development of a love of reading through exciting programmes planned for the school year. ‘Respect’ is the theme for Reading Week (23 – 27 November). ‘Respect’ reading lists and posters will be displayed throughout the School with QR codes containing book extracts. House librarians will advertise their favourite books and what they are currently reading to initiate conversations.

School-wide Reads
Anthony McGowen’s ‘Lark’ and Zadie Smith’s ‘Intimations’, which will be available for girls and staff to take home, read, and pass around the School community. We will then have book club meetings (via Teams) for anyone wishing to discuss their thoughts on the texts; these will be held on 2 December (Lark, UIII – UIV) and 3 December (Intimations, LV – UVI).
Monday 23 November: Anthony McGowen, award winning author of ‘Lark’ will be speaking via Zoom at 6:30
Thursday 19 November: LVI Book and bookmark making in the Art department
Tuesday 24 November: UVI Book and bookmark making in the Art department
Wednesday 25 November: Nicola Beauman, author and founder of Persephone Books will be speaking via Zoom at 6:30
