Helping Pupils Settle In

Wycombe Abbey girls sat on deckchairs

It was a very busy start to School for new UIV pupils joining in September, with various induction activities and opportunities to get involved in, they are now fully immersed in life at Wycombe Abbey. Before their arrival, new pupils were assigned a buddy who helped them to find their way around the School site and settle into boarding life.

As part of the induction process, new pupils and their buddies attend two pizza evenings with ice-breaker activities and fun games to get to know each other. One pupil identified their favourite part of the year so far to be “making new friends, being independent and the boarding experience”.

Our UIV buddies thoroughly enjoy their role in assisting the new pupils and their introduction to the School throughout their first term, with one pupil commenting, “it has enabled me to form unconditional friendships and deep bonds with fellow pupils”.

The buddy process begins in the Summer Term of LIV, with pupils attending training sessions to understand the role and how they can help the new joiners.

See below some particularly lovely comments from pupils:

“It was easy to settle in and I am very happy”.

“I’m really glad I came here because everybody’s been really nice to me. I think my first term here has been absolutely brilliant and I hope it continues to be for next term”.

“There are lots of opportunities for academics and sports which was really fun to be able to experience”.

“I am enjoying my time here!”
