Pathways to the Profession: Highlights from the Women in Law Talk

Pupils talking to a panellist.

On Tuesday evening, we attended Dr Challoner’s High School to take part in their Women in Law talk. Made up of barristers, solicitors, and trainees, the panel not only shared their experiences but also introduced us to the diverse routes available for entering the profession.

At the start of the evening, we spent some time networking, which gave us the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the speakers and broaden our connections.

Following this, we were guided to the main hall, where our hosts asked the panel a series of questions. Each speaker shared her pathway and experiences, which we found incredibly insightful. We were able to learn about their backgrounds, current roles and motivations for entering law, as well as the challenges they faced. The speakers also offered valuable advice on qualifications, work experience and university choices.

At the end, we were given the chance to ask questions to the panel, which was extremely helpful. Since the speakers came from a wide variety of sectors, their answers drew on a broad range of experience.

Overall, it was an insightful and enjoyable evening. We would highly recommend this opportunity to any aspiring lawyers. Meeting female professionals in the field was both inspiring and beneficial. It provided us with knowledge about careers in law that we might not otherwise have discovered.

Finally, we would like to thank Mrs Manning, Dr Challoner’s High School, the speakers and all staff members who contributed to organising this excellent event.
