Inspiring Futures in Aerospace: An Immersive Day with the Schools’ Aerospace Careers Programme.

Last week, our pupils had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the future of aerospace through a visit from the Schools’ Aerospace Careers Programme. Here’s what they experienced on the day:
‘On 14 October, we participated in the Schools’ Aerospace Careers Programme (ACP), a day filled with exciting talks and hands-on activities designed to widen our knowledge of the aerospace industry. Hosted at Wycombe Abbey, the event brought together 90 pupils from seven local schools, offering a valuable opportunity for us to connect with others who share similar interest in aerospace.
The day began with a series of enlightening talks about the progression of technology, its impact on industrial revolutions and various career paths in aerospace. These inspiring talks were from industry professionals, including Chris Marshall on the evolution of aerospace technology, Ogi Damjanovic on virtual reality and Mike Stokes, who offered insights into life as a commercial pilot, complete with a 360-degree VR cockpit flight experience.
In the afternoon, we had the unique opportunity to engage with Spot, a quadruped robot from Boston Dynamics, who was even able to respond to our questions! We also had the chance to operate drones using flying simulators and explored immersive virtual environments, where we could draw and design in a 3D space.
Being able to interact with this advanced technology was an incredible experience, as it allowed us to develop a broader perspective on aerospace, that reached beyond what we typically encounter in the textbook and classroom. We are incredibly grateful to have taken part in such an eye-opening and inspiring event that has allowed us to discover the diverse opportunities that lie ahead in this fascinating industry.’

Thank you to Dr James Seddon for his help organising the event and to all staff whose support and coordination ensured the day ran seamlessly. The experience was both exciting and informative, offering our pupils an insight into the many pathways the future may hold within the aerospace industry.
