Insights from Senior, Lily Sandeberg, on her Career in the Arts.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome back Wycombe Abbey Senior, Lily Sandeberg, who returned to the School to share her insights on careers in acting and screenwriting. After earning a joint honours degree in English and Drama from Bristol University, Lily went on to complete her MA at London Drama Studio.
Pupils found Lily’s talk incredibly valuable, gaining practical insights into the realities of the acting and screenwriting industry. She shared honest advice, from embracing rejection to discovering your niche in a highly competitive field. Her candid reflections offered a rare glimpse into the life of a professional actress, along with tips on avoiding common industry ‘pitfalls’.
Lily also explored the differences between screen and stage acting, shared her strategies for overcoming writer’s block, and explained how she draws inspiration from everyday life. She encouraged pupils to keep notes to capture ideas and moments that might otherwise be forgotten. Her talk also covered the practical side of pursuing a creative career, including choosing the right course, navigating application processes and preparing effectively for auditions
Reflecting on her journey, Lily shared how her time at Wycombe Abbey shaped her future in the performing arts:
‘Studying Drama for A Level at Wycombe was one of the best things I could have done for myself. It prepared me for my Theatre and English Literature degree at Bristol and subsequently for my Master’s degree in Professional Acting. Returning to Wycombe to discuss the beginnings of my career as an actor and writer was a complete joy!’
Lily will be returning to Wycombe Abbey in January and looks forward to answering questions and sharing more advice with pupils interested in the creative industries!
