Exceptional New Spaces for Sixth Form Pupils in the Redeveloped East Wing

Enabled by the generosity of the Wycombe Abbey community through Giving Day, the School undertook a significant redevelopment of the East Wing of the Abbey building during the summer holidays.

The project transformed a part of the Abbey that had remained largely unchanged since Pitt and Rubens relocated almost a decade ago. The first floor has been completely reimagined to provide enhanced study areas, modern common room facilities for Sixth Form pupils, and dedicated office spaces for the Sixth Form team.

A key element of the redevelopment was the relocation of the Whitelaw Library from its former ground-floor location to the heart of the East Wing. The new library creates a welcoming and inspiring hub for learning and scholarship, placing books, research and independent study at the centre of Sixth Form life. The result is a beautiful and contemporary space that honours the legacy of Miss Whitelaw while meeting the needs of today’s pupils.

Mrs Jacky Tidbury, Assistant Head (Sixth Form), says:

‘The East Wing has been completely transformed into a space that our Sixth Form pupils can be proud of. It provides the ideal environment for both academic study and the sense of community that makes the Sixth Form such a special part of school life.’

Our Head Girl Team say:

‘The new East Wing is incredibly inviting, creating a stimulating academic but also relaxing environment. I have spent every free period in the new and improved Whitelaw Library, and I’m sure it will continue to be a valuable space for future Sixth Formers.’
