Developing our Academic Qualities: Development

At the heart of education at Wycombe Abbey is the idea of development. In the classroom, our pupils are encouraged to develop their understanding of topics through a range of reflective strategies, their reflection on their work outside of the classroom allows them to develop this further. Through discussions with their teachers and tutors, pupils develop their own approaches, considering what works best for them and what revision strategies they can use to fulfil their potential. During University Preparation Lessons, LVI pupils develop critical analysis and collaboration skills that will enrich their university experience. Regular discussions with tutors about their progress further enhance their metacognitive abilities, helping them understand how they learn best and unlock their full potential.

We strongly believe in preparing our pupils to be future-ready when they leave School and this extends beyond their GCSE and A level results. The development of power skills, such as communication and collaboration, in the classroom through discussion-based lesson activities helps prepare our pupils for the world of work. In conversation with their tutors, our pupils are encouraged to reflect on their academic journeys and what skills they have developed over the course of the year. Regular presentations by our Consultant Teachers, in conjunction with our Teaching and Learning Inset Programme, have also fostered a collaborative pedagogical environment that encourages the development of skills even amongst the most experienced practitioners.
