Celebrating Eloise’s Outstanding GCSE Success
16 September 2025 - All

We are delighted to share the success of Eloise (LVI), who was among a number of girls to achieve an exceptional set of GCSE results, earning a straight sweep of grade 9s this summer. In the reflections below, she speaks about her preparation, the importance of balance during exam season and the lessons she has taken forward as she begins Sixth Form.
How did you feel when you opened your GCSE results?
I was actually more nervous waiting for my IGCSE results than for my GCSEs, so by the time GCSE results day arrived two days later, I felt quite calm. On the day itself, my mum opened the envelope first and came in smiling to tell me I’d achieved all 9s, I was very pleased.
How did you stay organised while preparing for so many subjects?
I used my calendar to plan revision time for each subject and to make sure all my prep was completed on schedule.
How did you balance studying with co-curricular activities and downtime?
I made sure to schedule my co-curricular activities, such as societies and events, into my calendar first, then organised my revision around them, making the most of my evenings. This approach helped me maintain a balanced and well-structured routine.
How do you feel the School supported you in your success?
My teachers always made the time to answer my questions and support me if I ever felt I needed guidance, especially Mr Wildgoose, Head of Upper School.
Was there anything specific you did to manage stress and unwind during exam season?
I enjoyed spending time with my friends over lunch, which was a great way to relax and recharge. I also adopted the mindset of ‘what’s done is done’ avoiding negative thoughts about exams I had already finished and keeping my focus on those still to come.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your GCSEs?
I’ve learnt to become more resilient, particularly through my work for my Art GCSE. By setting aside Monday afternoons specifically for Art, I was able to compartmentalise the workload and approach it with a clearer, calmer mindset.
What are you most excited about as you move on to Sixth Form?
I’m excited about the prospect of focusing solely on my favourite subjects. At the moment, I’m studying Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Economics, Latin and Chinese HSK, as well as taking Italian GCSE.
What advice would you give to younger pupils preparing for their GCSEs?
Make sure you keep up with your prep and don’t be afraid to ask plenty of questions. If you go into your exams knowing you’ve done your best to prepare, you’ll have no regrets.
What do you want to study after Wycombe Abbey?
I’m not entirely certain yet, perhaps Economics or Classics, but I’m looking forward to discussing my options further with Mrs Bowen, Head of Higher Education.
