Upper School Launch Black History Month with Assembly on Hidden Gems within Black Communitites

To celebrate the start of Black History Month pupils from LV and UV led an assembly about the ‘Hidden Gems within Black Communities’. They talked to their peers about various elements of Black history, ranging from the story of the Notting Hill Carnival to the life and works of leading abolitionist Olaudah Equiano. The girls demonstrated creativity and confidence in their delivery and the talk was very well-received by staff and pupils alike. In the coming weeks, Upper School will be focusing on more ‘Hidden Gems’ from Black history in their tutor times focussing awareness on Black voices.

Black History Month is a perfect time to explore our School value of Mutual Respect where we seek to understand and embrace differences in people, ideas and experiences with tolerance and understanding.
