Another Year of Success on the Slopes

Wycombe Abbey girls have dominated the slopes once again, being named Independent School Ski Champions for the second year in a row at the annual competition in Les Deux Alpes. Building on last year’s success, the girls beat off strong competition to win every team category entered.

On an individual basis the girls achieved 12 podium places, with the U14 team very impressively dominating the category in every discipline.

With 20 UK independent schools taking part and 380 competitors, it is the biggest event of its kind. The competition provides a great opportunity for pupils with all levels of ski racing experience to enjoy a competitive opportunity. The Wycombe Abbey team comprised girls from all School years, who developed their racing technique with two days of coaching and three days of competitions.

Director of Sport, Louisa Taylor, said ‘The girls and staff endured some tough conditions with racing having to be cancelled for one day due to heavy snow and poor visibility. We were, however, blessed with clear skies and great conditions for some of the racing. Congratulations to all the girls who took part and what a great way to end the term!’

We look forward to our team competing in the next ski racing competition taking place in January at the British Schools Girls Ski Racing competition in Flaine.
