Academic Forum 2024
4 October 2024 - All

Recently, UVI participated in an Academic Forum with other local schools. Our Academic Forum is designed to give our UVI pupils a taste of university learning and to help them with their applications. For the Wycombe Abbey pupils, the day began with a task designed to test creative thinking. Small groups were given an array of everyday items such as a rugby ball or a pair of rubber gloves and were asked to develop a short presentation on the object from the perspective of their chosen degree.
Medical applicants then took part in an MMI simulation (Multiple Mini Interviews) having mere minutes to prepare for a variety of scenarios such as solving a logic puzzle or communicating with a patient who didn’t speak English. Applicants for other disciplines used this time to practice their on-screen interview persona, answering a range of thought-provoking questions.
The afternoon saw pupils from Royal Grammar School High Wycombe, Dr Challoner’s Grammar School and Wallingford School join us to take part in subject-specific sessions. These sessions involved seminar-style discussions and exposed pupils to new ideas and themes within their chosen undergraduate degrees. This was followed by a lively quiz where teams from different disciplines joined forces to tackle a range of high-level and complex questions and problems. The scores were incredibly tight with all the teams demonstrating admirable determination and ingenuity. We were delighted to hear that pupils from our visiting schools were left ‘buzzing’ from the experience whilst our own pupils expressed gratitude for a day immersed in academic challenge and fun.
