Portugal Tennis Tour 2026

At the start of Easter Long Leave, pupils from LIV – LVI travelled to the Algarve, Portugal, for this year’s much anticipated Tennis Tour. Designed to bridge the gap between technical training and competitive match play, the tour began straight on the clay, where players quickly shook off travel fatigue during an opening session in the Portuguese sunshine.

The coaching staff structured the week to build tactical complexity. Early sessions focused on the fundamentals of groundstrokes before shifting toward more specialised net play. By mid-week, the athletes were practicing volleys and serves with specific technical feedback, followed by doubles matches that emphasised court positioning. These sessions were critical for the squad to adapt to the Portuguese conditions and prepare for the concluding tournament.

Beyond the courts, the tour focused on the ‘complete athlete’ through a mix of active recovery and social engagement. Pupils spent afternoons at the beach playing volleyball or utilising the tennis centre’s heated pool. Evening activities, including a talent show and a competitive quiz night, provided a fun mental reset between training blocks.

The tour’s competitive highlight was a multi-school tournament against Brentwood and Bradfield. The results reflected the depth of the squad across all levels of play. In the Tier 1 bracket, Astrid and Elsa delivered a commanding performance to reach the semi-finals. In Tier 2, Jessie and Aura demonstrated consistent form to secure a second-place finish overall. The most contested match of the week took place in the Tier 3 final, an all-school encounter between Lita and Sienna and Athena and Olivia. It remained a very close game, but Lita and Sienna caught up in the final minutes to claim first place. The tour concluded as a successful international campaign, leaving the players with refined techniques and a stronger competitive edge for the upcoming season.

A big thank you to all the staff that made this trip possible. We look forward to many more to come.
