Global Celebration Week 2026
29 January 2026 - All

This week at Wycombe Abbey is Global Celebration Week. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the wonderful diversity that shapes our School community. From the International Fair on Tuesday evening to themed lessons throughout the week, pupils and staff are enjoying learning about different cultures and traditions from around the world.
Throughout the week, interactive displays have encouraged everyone to reflect on their global connections. A Map of the World, located in the Glass Box, Health Centre and Staffroom, invited pupils and staff to place a sticker on a location that holds personal significance. Alongside this, Graffiti Boards provided spaces for creative expression, where individuals could draw, write and answer the question: ‘What does global citizenship mean to you?’
Here is what some UIII pupils shared about what Global Citizenship means to them:
‘Global citizenship means having a group of people who feel like family to me, even though we aren’t related, and experiencing a real sense of belonging within a community, mine is Wycombe Abbey. It also reflects how the kindness shown by others brings us closer together until those friendships feel like sisters.’ – Fifi
‘Global citizenship means showing responsibility and kindness to others and helping to create a fairer world. It involves recognising that everyone needs to feel part of a community and taking action on global issues such as inequality and human rights, so that we can build stronger relationships with the people around us.’ – Martha
‘To understand and appreciate cultures and also let others learn about your own, making new friends by doing so. It also means when people are treated equally and when people recognise that we are part of one big community.’ – Akira

One of the highlights of the week was was Tuesday evening’s International Fair. Pupils representing 17 different nations set up beautifully crafted stands in Big School, each offering a taste of their culture through traditional foods, games and quizzes. Stalls included: India, where pupils offered beautiful mehndi designs, France, where visitors tackled a language quiz and French tongue‑twisters to win handmade pastries and Thailand who made Thai tea!
The evening was a great success, giving pupils a wonderful opportunity to engage with one another and share their cultures.
Another highlight was the House Doorway Decoration Competition, where each House designed an artwork to represent the diversity and shared identity found within their community.
The results were:
- 1st Place – Cloister
- 2nd Place – Butler
- 3rd Place – Pitt

Well done to everyone who contributed to these creative and meaningful displays.
A huge thank you to the Staff and Pupil EDI Committees for organising such a successful and enriching week of activities. Global Celebration Week has been a wonderful reminder of the international links that shape our community and the cultures that enrich our School life. It provides valuable opportunities for learning and builds global awareness, ensuring Wycombe Abbey remains a place of connection, curiosity and international spirit.
