Wycombe Abbey Piano Trio Triumphs at Chamber Music Finals
14 March 2025 - All

‘And the winner is…the Wycombe Abbey Piano Trio.’
These were the words uttered by the adjudicator at this year’s South East Schools’ Chamber Music Competition finals, held at St George’s, Hanover Square, London, on Tuesday, 11 March.
Competing against 65 groups representing various schools, the Piano Trio, Judy (LVI), Allegra (UV) and Chloe (LVI), delivered a fantastic performance, securing 1st Prize in the Senior category. This is now the fourth consecutive year that Wycombe Abbey has won first place at this increasingly popular competition. This trio has been together for four years winning three of those four accolades.
The day itself was very exciting. A very short rehearsal allowed the trio to re-acquaint themselves with the acoustics and although already experienced musicians, there was still the buzz and anticipation for the evening ahead. There was a sizeable audience adding to the atmosphere with great support from other competitors and parents.
As the trio tuned up, they kept the audience poised for the mysterious opening of Mendelssohn’s First Piano Trio. The girls were fully focused, drawing the audience into the journey of this remarkable piece. As an accomplished group of musicians, their performance felt effortless, with hard work and rehearsals seemingly far from their minds. Playing as one, completely immersed in the music, the trio captivated the audience. A rousing finish was met with a rapturous response from the listeners.
Over the past four years, this group has grown together, embodying their shared passion for music, a passion that was undoubtedly felt by everyone in attendance.
The suspense was over, with the result announced to everyone’s delight.
The only problem now is where to keep the growing collection of Trophies!
