Wycombe Abbey Pupils Excel at National Lacrosse Championships

The much-anticipated annual National Schools Lacrosse Championships took place on 8 – 11 March at Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre. It was a fantastic few days of sport with our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, U15A, U14A, and U13A teams taking part.
The 1st team placed 2nd in their group on the first day, securing a spot in the final 16. They played some of their best Lacrosse on day two but narrowly missed out on a quarter-final place against a strong Westonbirt team.
The 2nd team also had an excellent weekend, finishing fourth in their group on Saturday, which secured them a place in the final 16. They faced tough competition in their Sunday morning matches but played exceptionally well, placing 2nd in the round-robin games. Despite a hard-fought battle in the play-off against St Mary’s Calne, they lost 3-2, just missing out on the quarter-finals.
The 3rd team started the tournament strongly, finishing 2nd in their group. They delivered a dominant performance in the last 16 play-off, defeating Putney 2-1. They began their quarter-final confidently but, despite giving it their all, narrowly missed out on a semi-final place, losing 3-2 to Guildford.
The U15A team faced a challenging group and missed out on the Championship by just one point. Though disappointed not to progress further, they finished on a high, cruising through the Division 1 play-offs to be crowned Champions!
The U13A team also performed exceptionally well, topping their group. Despite a tough play-off draw, they went 1-0 up but just fell short of a quarter-final place, losing 2-1 to Guildford.
The U14A team placed 3rd in their group, securing a last 16 place. Despite an outstanding performance in goal from Charlotte, they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Putney.
Overall, the girls played some excellent Lacrosse, showcasing some of their best performances during the tournament. Thank you to all our parents, families, and coaches for supporting the girls throughout the season and on the sidelines at National Schools. We very much look forward to hosting the U15B tournament here at Wycombe Abbey on Thursday 20 March.
