Wycombe Abbey Triumph at British Youth Championship Qualifiers.

Last week, five Wycombe Abbey pupils delivered an impressive performance at the Southern Region qualifiers for the Fencing British Youth Championships. Competing in the U16 Foil category, Elizabeth Anne, Youyi, Alice and Jennifer demonstrated outstanding skill and sportsmanship throughout the event.

The group embodied true team spirit, supporting one another between poules and during the high‑pressure Direct Elimination rounds.

In the knockout stages, Youyi faced a challenging opponent with an unconventional style and was narrowly defeated. Jennifer and Alice met each other on the piste, with Alice securing the win and progressing through the rounds to finish in an excellent 7th place. Her result earns her a place in the British Youth Championships Final, to be held in May.

The accompanying photograph captures the decisive moment of Alice’s final attack in her winning bout, landing the touch that secured her advancement.

Elizabeth Anne delivered a superb performance across the day. Fencing with consistency and confidence, she went on to claim gold, securing her qualification for the BYC finals as well.

Alicia placed third in the U18 Sabre, qualifying to represent the region in the British Youth Championships.

Wycombe Abbey congratulates all four fencers on their achievements and wishes the qualifiers the very best as they prepare for the national finals.
