Wycombe Abbey Sports Report – Spring Term 1
11 February 2026 - All

As we progress through the early part of the Spring Term, our sports programme has already enjoyed a vibrant and competitive start, albeit very wet! Across multiple sports, pupils have demonstrated resilience, teamwork and determination, contributing to a series of excellent performances and qualifications for Regional and National finals.
Cricket
Our indoor cricket squads gained valuable experience at the South Bucks U13 ECB Indoor Competition, where both teams produced encouraging performances. The U13A team won the tournament progressing through to the County finals and the U15 teams will compete towards the end of the half term to try and secure their spot.
Cross Country
The Buckinghamshire Schools Cross‑Country Championships brought outstanding success across age groups. Minors (UIII) saw Iris, Isla, Alice and Alice qualify for the National Primary Schools and Year 7 Seven Finals. The Juniors claimed 1st place as a team, with Nell and Aura both also qualifying individually for the English Schools National Finals, and the Inters also finished as team champions, led by Aryana, Emma, Alice and Cosima.
Athletics
Adaobi in UIV competed in the England Athletics Indoor Championships at the beginning of February. She ran a personal best of 7.67 seconds over 60m placing her 4th in the country in the U15 age category, an amazing result!

Lacrosse
The Lacrosse season resumed strongly with fixtures against Queen Anne’s, Marlborough, St Swithuns and St Helen and St Katherine, producing wins across almost all teams and age groups. The very wet start to the year has made fixtures difficult but we have done our best to give as many pupils’ competitive opportunities as possible and for those that have had cancellations there have been high quality indoor training and match analysis sessions to support their development.
The U14A team did get to play their Tri Counties Tournament on Wednesday 29 January. The whole team pulled together in difficult conditions to produce some excellent performances, placing them as runners up on the day. The MVP was awarded to Neeva.

Hockey
Camilla (LIV) continues to excel in her external hockey commitments. Alongside her recent selection for the Buckinghamshire County U13 Squad, she has been invited to the Reading Talent Academy Nominations Camp and the South Saxons U13 regional trials, pathways usually aimed at much older players, making her inclusion at 12 especially impressive. Her Marlow U14 club team has also reached the England Hockey Tier 1 Cup semi‑final. Well done Camilla!
Netball
Netball opened the year strongly with a series of victories. The U19A team won a very tough Quarter Final SnS Cup Game against Uppingham, placing them into a Semi Final against Bradfield in the coming weeks, with the hope of making the National Final Four for the second year in a row.
Both the U16A and U19A competed in the South Regional Finals of the National Schools Competition. The U16A had a great start to the day with some cohesive and controlled displays of netball. Overall, they finished 5th in their group after coming up against some tough opposition, a result which they should still be very proud of, nonetheless. The U19A team had a tough group and some tough playing conditions to overcome. Adapting to last minute personnel changes, they showed grit and determination and placed 4th in their group, only losing to the eventual National final qualifying teams.

Swimming
At the beginning of February several swimmers competed in the Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire County Championships, gaining some outstanding results, personal bests and qualifications for the Regional Championships in May:
- Martha in UIII placed in 1st for both in 1500m and 800m freestyle as well as 2nd in the 400m freestyle.
- Annabelle in LVI placed 1st in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle as well as in the 50m backstroke, 50m fly and relays.
- Summer in UV placed 3rd in the 50m freestyle and
- Dora in UIII gained 10 places across a range of events.

Fencing
Five pupils recently attended the South Region qualifiers for the Fencing British Youth Championships. Alicia in LVI entered the U18 Sabre placing 3rd, with four other pupils entering into the U16 Foil. Youyi and Jennifer in LV were defeated by some tough opposition whereas Elizabeth Anne and Alice also in LV won their bouts. Alice eventually placed in 7th and Elizabeth Anne won Gold on the day; both girls now qualify for the British Youth Championships.

British Schoolgirls Ski Races
From Friday 23 January to Wednesday 28 January 14 girls travelled to Flaine, France to train and race in the British Schoolgirls Ski Races. Pupils ranged from UIII to UV and competed in Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Parallel Slalom. We had some excellent results both individually and as a team with Athena (UIII) placing 1st in both the U12 Giant Slalom and Parallel Slalom as well as the B team placing 3rd in the overall combined team competition.

Congratulations to all pupils.
