Wycombe Abbey Sports Report – Autumn Term 2

As the second half of the Autumn Term concludes, we celebrate an incredible array of sporting contributions and achievements across multiple disciplines.

Lacrosse

On the Lacrosse pitch, we’ve seen record numbers and fantastic progress. The 1st team narrowly missed out on the County title, finishing second, while the 2nd team and U15B squad were crowned County Champions, an excellent achievement. The depth of talent is clear, with players representing England, Wales, Scotland, Italy, Chinese Taipei, and Germany, and several selected for the South East Super Counties Tournament.

Netball

Netball has continued its upward trajectory, with strong performances across all age groups. Our U19 team swept the County Tournament to become champions, while the U16s finished second and the U14s placed fourth after some nail-biting matches. Both U16 and U19 squads now progress to the Regional round of the National Schools competition, a fantastic accomplishment. Beyond school fixtures, we’re proud to see so many pupils competing externally, with special congratulations to Issy (LVI) for earning selection to both the England and Scotland U17 squads, as well as her London Pulse selection alongside Flora (UV). The U12, U14, and U19 teams have also all progressed to the quarterfinals of the Sisters in Sport National Cup, showcasing their exceptional talent and determination.

Swimming

Swimming has made real waves this term, starting with a fiercely competitive invitational gala and continuing with outstanding performances in the English Schools divisional round. Our decision to move districts brought new challenges, and all swimmers met these challenges with resilience and determination. Participation remains strong across all age groups, and it’s inspiring to see our senior squad thriving alongside their academic commitments. The partnership with Wycombe District Swimming Club continues to provide an exceptional platform for development, and we look forward to building on this momentum next term.

Squash

Squash has seen a surge in participation and competitive fixtures, with five teams entered into the National Schools Championships, a clear sign of the sport’s continued strength and depth.

Athletics and Cross Country

Athletics and Cross Country have also shone brightly. We celebrated the athletic achievements of Aura (LIV), Adaobi (UIV), and Maria (UVI), who continue to impress on national stages in their individual events. Our Junior and Inter Cross-Country teams qualified for Regional Finals in the ESAA Cup, and there were individual performances that deserve recognition, with Nell (UIV) gaining an outstanding second-place finish in the Inter category.

Dance, Skiing, Football, Badminton and Golf

Dance has brought creativity and energy to the term, with preparations for the Spotlight Dance Show well underway. Over 70 performers will take the stage in January, and the leadership shown by our Dance Captains has been exceptional. Skiing has returned with renewed vigour, with weekly training sessions and strong results in early competitions, while Football continues to flourish, with expanded training and impressive competitive wins. Badminton and Golf have also seen fantastic engagement, with pupils representing the school in fixtures and competitions, and new opportunities emerging for our golfers to compete.

PEBE Sports Bras Workshop

This term, we welcomed PEBE into school to deliver an informative and empowering workshop for all pupils, focusing on the importance and benefits of a well-fitting sports bra, its impact on performance, and its role in breast health. The sessions provided practical guidance, expert advice, and opportunities for pupils to ask questions, reinforcing our commitment to holistic wellbeing in sport. Following the workshops, all pupils and staff were encouraged to take part in a fitting service to better understand their bra size. Feedback from the whole school community has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the value of this initiative.
