Wycombe Abbey Sports Report – Autumn Term 1
8 October 2025 - All

As the first half term of the academic year draws to a close, it’s been a fantastic and action-packed start for our sports teams across all age groups. From netball to lacrosse, and a variety of midweek fixtures, our pupils have shown outstanding commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Lacrosse
Lacrosse remains a key part of our sporting programme, and this half term saw a fantastic start for our younger players.
U12 Internal Tournament
The entire U12 year group took part in an exciting internal lacrosse tournament, designed to give every pupil the chance to experience competitive play in a supportive environment. The matches were fast-paced and full of energy, with excellent teamwork and sportsmanship on display. The tournament not only highlighted the pupils’ growing technical ability, but also their enthusiasm and love for the game.
First Competitive Fixture Success
Building on the momentum from the internal tournament, the U12A, B, and C teams went on to play their first competitive fixture of the season against St Catherines. All three teams performed exceptionally well, each securing a win in their respective matches. The players demonstrated excellent progress, strong teamwork, and a growing tactical awareness, setting a positive tone for the rest of the season.

Netball
Netball has been another major focus this half term, with pupils from across the school showcasing their talent, determination, and team spirit in a variety of competitions and fixtures.
Sisters in Sport National Cup
Our teams have made an exceptional start in this prestigious national competition:
- The U19A team delivered a dominant performance, winning 51–22 in their opening match. Their fluid attacking play and tight defensive structure were a testament to their hard work in training.
- The U16A team also secured a well-earned victory (score to be confirmed), demonstrating resilience and tactical awareness throughout.
- The U13A team showed great composure and teamwork to win 11–6, while the U12A team impressed with a commanding 28–2 win, reflecting the depth of talent in our younger squads.
Wycombe Abbey Invitational Tournament
We were delighted to host schools from four different counties for our annual invitational tournament at U19, U16 and U14. The U19A team rose to the occasion, winning their age group with confidence and consistency. The event was a brilliant opportunity for players to test themselves against strong opposition ahead of the County Round of the National Schools Netball Championship.

U12 Whole Year Group Tournament with LEH
Our U12s enjoyed a fantastic day of netball at the start of the term in a friendly tournament with LEH. Every pupil in the year group had the opportunity to play, and the atmosphere was one of encouragement, learning, and fun. Matches were competitive and spirited, and it was wonderful to see so many pupils developing their skills and confidence on court.
International Netball Exchange – South Africa Visit
A highlight of the term was welcoming a visiting netball team from KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The touring side played competitive and friendly matches against our U19A, U19B, and U16A teams, as well as other local schools. The matches were played in great spirit and provided a valuable cultural and sporting exchange.
To celebrate the occasion, we hosted a joint dinner with the U16A team and our South African guests, fostering friendships and connections beyond the court. It was a memorable experience for all involved and a wonderful example of sport bringing people together.

Midweek Fixtures Programme
This term also saw the launch of our alternating Wednesday fixtures, a new initiative designed to broaden pupils’ sporting experiences and encourage participation across a wider range of disciplines. Every other week, pupils take part in netball matches, while the alternate weeks offer a rotation of different sports including swimming, football, squash, badminton, golf, and fencing.
This diverse programme has been a fantastic opportunity for pupils to step outside their usual sporting routines and try something new. It has encouraged the development of a wide range of physical and tactical skills, improved overall fitness, and fostered a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for sport beyond the traditional team games.
