Wycombe Abbey Sports Awards 2022

At the beginning of term, the Sports Department held the Wycombe Abbey Sports Awards event to honour the efforts and achievements of our Upper School (LV-UVI) athletes. The evening was lovely, starting with drinks and food and then sitting down to hear a from Eilidh McIntyre, an Olympic sailor. The awards were presented, with categories ranging from Sportsmanship to Unsung Hero, ensuring that everyone was represented and appreciated. We also marked the hand-over of the Sports Captains by thanking the outgoing team and welcoming in the next cohort for the new year. With dessert and drinks being served after the final proceedings, parents, staff, and girls alike left with smiles and high spirits. Thank you so much to the PE Department, particularly Mrs Gee, whose hard work ensured that the evening ran so smoothly!

Sports Captain 2022-2023

My first Sports Awards was an unforgettable experience that has made my last year at Wycombe Abbey even more memorable. After hearing Eilidh’s talk surrounding the challenges of becoming an Olympic athlete, as well as the difficulties of finding direction after you have achieved your goals, I have truly reconsidered what success means as a sportswoman. Rather than it being measured by the number of medals you win or the competitions you attend, it can also be valued in a multitude of other ways. Eilidh mentioned how she competed with a variety of teammates and met her fitness goals during lockdown, both can be considered as successful moments. Her talk also mentioned the mental challenge of sport, something that I believe is of equal importance to physical sporting performance, especially for young athletes. The applause of the audience was a true reflection of Eilidh’s talk, and I am sure she will return to inspire more athletes in the future.

Alice
Sports Captain 2021-2022

Sports Awards 2022 was an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the significant sporting achievements of our senior pupils. It was a delight to see them trade in their PE kit for glamorous evening wear, supporting their peers and acknowledging all their incredible sporting achievements. Thank you to the parents and families of our athletes who attended the event, and to those who support the girls throughout the year but were unable to attend. The PE Department are incredibly proud of all the athletes, the progress they have made individually and within their teams, their dedication to the School and their positive attitudes and ability to make us all smile.

We are very much looking forward to a summer of sport and watching our girls continue to flourish on the court, the pitch, in the pool, on the track or anywhere else they wish to play their sport.
