Wycombe Abbey Shine at Lacrosse National Championships

Wycombe Abbey athletes delivered four exceptional days of Lacrosse at the National Schools Championships, showcasing determination, resilience and outstanding skill across all senior and junior teams.

1st Team – Division 1 Finalists

Following a hard-fought Day One, the 1st Team regrouped brilliantly on Sunday. They topped their Division 1 group and progressed to the knockout stages after a dramatic L16 win against St Paul’s, secured in overtime. Their momentum continued with victories over NLCS and HABs, before narrowly missing out on the Championship title in a tense final against Birkenhead.

2nd Team – Division 2 Champions

The 2nd Team also shone in their Division 2 group, putting in a series of strong performances to reach the latter stages of the competition. After impressive Quarter-Final and Semi-Final wins over STAHS and NLCS, they produced a remarkable comeback in the final, fighting back from 2–0 down to secure a 3–2 victory over Caterham and claim the Division 2 title.

3rd Team – Top Four Finish

The 3rd Team also delivered an impressive run, finishing 2nd in their group and progressing to the Championship Last 16. After a well-earned 3–1 victory over LEH, they went on to defeat St Paul’s 4–0 in the Quarter-Finals with a commanding display of lacrosse. In the Semi-Finals, they battled against Guildford, creating plenty of attacking opportunities but ultimately losing 3–1. Their performance earned them an outstanding top four national finish

U15A – Top Eight in the Country

The U15As topped their group after a morning of competitive matches, earning a place in the Championship Last 16. They defeated NLCS 5–3 to reach the Quarter-Finals, where they faced Berkhamsted. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous attacking opportunities, they fell short with a 4–1 final score, securing a well-deserved place in the top eight nationwide

U13 – Division 1 Silver Medallists

The U13s began the day with a challenging set of fixtures, narrowly missing out on qualification for the Championship Last 16 and instead progressing into Division 1. Their performance grew stronger throughout the day, culminating in a place in the Division 1 final against NLCS. In a tense match that remained level until the closing moments, the result was decided by a final goal in the last 30 seconds, earning the team a well-deserved silver medal

U14 – Strong Championship Run

The U14s performed exceptionally well in the group stages, winning all but one of their matches and finishing 2nd in what proved to be a highly competitive pool. This secured their place in the Championship L16, where they faced a strong SHSK side. Despite a committed and skilful display, the team narrowly missed out on advancing to the Quarter-Finals.

Wycombe Abbey players have demonstrated remarkable teamwork and competitive spirit throughout the Championships. We are incredibly proud of all who represented the School. We would like to thank Assistant Director of Sport and Head of Lacrosse, Ruby Smith, as well as the rest of our Sports Department, whose consistent guidance, organisation and expertise make these valuable opportunities possible for our pupils.
