Wycombe Abbey Model United Nations Team Hosts Training Conference

The Model United Nations (MUN) team began its season this weekend with a training conference with boys from RGS Guildford.

Over one-hundred pupils participated in the event, which began with a debate on methods to combat illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

A series of training workshops taught participants a number of debating techniques. They also learned about the aims, structure and powers of the United Nations, and how to draft formal UN resolutions. Pupils new to MUN were coached through the process by senior girls.

Pupils applied the skills they had learned during debates at the end of the day. These discussed human rights and terrorism; and protecting the rights of migrant workers during preparations for major international sporting events.

Wycombe Abbey runs one of the largest MUN programmes in the country.
