Wycombe Abbey hosts Rathbones National Lacrosse Championships 2018

Heavy rain did not dampen spirits as 800 players and 1,000 spectators arrived at Wycombe Abbey for the Rathbones National Lacrosse Championships 2018 on 11 and 12 March. Despite challenging weather conditions there was an incredible atmosphere enjoyed by all who attended the two day, U19 tournament.

Wycombe Abbey was host to 48 schools, and the colourful array of tents and marquees made for a most festive occasion and true celebration of school lacrosse.

The 2017 winners Benenden were joined by Berkhamsted, Lady Eleanor Holles and St Catherine’s, Bramley in the semi-finals. After a thrilling final against St Catherine’s, Bramley, Lady Eleanor Holles School were crowned the champions. Wycombe Abbey was awarded the Team Spirit Award.

Wycombe Abbey Lacrosse Co-Captains Natasha (UVI) and Imogen (UVI) said, “Playing on home turf at Nationals this year was an incredible experience. The atmosphere this year was particularly special, with teachers, parents and pupils cheering us on. It was a fantastic way to end the season and our lacrosse careers at Wycombe. Lacrosse has been a huge part of our lives at Wycombe Abbey for both of us, it was great to end with such an awesome two days.”
