Wycombe Abbey Triumphs at the LSE Schools Debating Competition 2026

During Long Leave, the Debating and Public Speaking Society travelled to the London School of Economics to compete in the 2026 Schools Competition. All eight participants performed excellently throughout the day, debating a wide range of challenging motions, including ‘This House prefers companies engaging in carbon offsetting rather than decarbonisation’ and ‘This House would abolish the House of Lords.

The team achieved outstanding results across the competition. Congratulations go to Mia and Anna Wang (UV), who broke into the Silver Final in the Senior Stream and went on to place second in the final, a fantastic achievement in a highly competitive field.

A further special congratulations go to Mia (UIII) and Dorcas (LIV), who placed first twice across two rounds, broke into the Gold Final, and then went on to win the final. They debated superbly throughout the day, with judges unanimously agreeing on their first place victory in the final. Winning an entire competition is no small feat, given the number of participating schools, and this represents a significant achievement for the Society.

Well done to all the students involved for representing the school with such distinction and demonstrating such impressive commitment, skill, and teamwork throughout the competition.
