Success at the Industrial Cadets Bronze Award Competition

Wycombe Abbey Success at the Industrial Cadets Competition

Over the course of the Spring Term, two teams of UIV pupils have been working on engineering projects for their Bronze Industrial Cadets Award.

Through Industrial Cadets experiences, pupils gain insight and exposure to STEM and the world of work, helping to open their eyes to exciting careers and opportunities.

Team 1 were partnered with the media company “MediaKind” and met their mentors virtually every week. They worked together on a project to design residential housing in an area of the world with specific climate challenges. The team chose the Sahara Desert and carried out extensive research into different options and then created their final design using Fusion-360 3D Design software.

Team 2 were partnered with an intelligent identification systems company called “Innovative Technology” who produce a range of cash detection systems. In their weekly Zoom meetings, they worked with their mentors to design a school on an island.

In the final stage of the competition, both teams impressed the judges with their exceptionally high standard of their written reports, their efficient collaborative teamwork during the challenges of lockdown, and the professional delivery of their video presentations. We are pleased that both teams were recognised and rewarded for the outstanding quality of their work, picking up the top two awards.

  • The award for the Best STEM Solution went to Team 1, which consisted of Sofia, Lila, Bea and Dana.
  • The Best Overall Project award went to Team 2, consisting of Freya, Adela, Milly and Polly.

We are very grateful to our mentors from MediaKind and Innovative Technology for their encouragement, support and advice during all stages of the competition.
