We were delighted to welcome Sally Gordin and Kelly Pippin, teachers at Oaks Christian School (OCS) in Los Angeles, to Wycombe Abbey for an enriching week in the next stage of our partnership between our two schools.
Bringing the Californian sunshine with them, Sally and Kelly immersed themselves in the life of the School, visiting lessons across a wide range of subjects, meeting with teaching and support staff, and embracing the boarding culture. Trips to Milton’s Cottage, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon provided a perfect cultural complement to Wycombe Abbey life, with Dove Day rounding off the week in style.
Having visited Oaks Christian School in October 2023, Avani Hurribunce (Barry Housemistress) and Sam Lenton (Head of English) were thrilled to continue their association through this visit, widening and strengthening the benefits of this connection with conversations about teaching and learning, promoting a reading culture, gaining insight into our vision and strategic plan and nurturing a community. Stephen Goward (Assistant Director of Sixth Form), who has played an instrumental role in establishing the partnership, kindly hosted our visitors in his home, placing them at the centre of the School site.
Sally and Kelly spoke warmly of their welcome and the transformative effect the visit would have as they returned to California, armed with ideas, inspiration and an ever-increasing list of contacts eager to collaborate and connect across the ocean. We look forward to building, strengthening, and expanding our professional growth and network with OCS.
