Scuba Diving, Origami and Escape Rooms: Societies Sunday 2026
23 January 2026 - All

The first weekend of Spring term was full of energy and excitement as pupils returned to school, reconnecting with friends and immersing themselves in a wide range of activities. Across the weekend, girls enjoyed the Spotlights Dance Show, the return of the Inter-House Quiz, Societies Sunday, House Activities and a GCSE Art Workshop, alongside the regular programme of Sport, Music and Drama.
A particular highlight was the Inter-House Quiz, run in a University Challenge-style format and bringing together pupils from across the year groups. It was wonderful to see such collaboration and enthusiasm, and congratulations go to Campbell, Barry, Rubens and Shelburne for qualifying for the semi-finals, which will take place later in the Spring Term.
Houses also came together over the weekend for their own individual House activities. These ranged from pizza making to mug decorating, and spa nights and a movie night in Big School for Junior House. The House community is a key foundation of life at Wycombe Abbey and it was lovely that our pupils were able to enjoy activities that brought them all closer together this week.

Societies Sunday saw 25 societies organising and leading sessions throughout the day for the entire pupil body. Sessions included tie-dye t-shirt printing, medical suturing practice, a science experiment escape room, origami lessons and a scuba diving session in the school pool. The Law Society held the VI Mock Trial written by pupils which saw staff and pupils play the part of victims, witnesses and barristers. There really was something for everyone.

Here is what some of our UIII pupils said about the weekend:
Mingyi:
‘The closed weekend was fantastic! On Saturday, we had a special UIII dinner in Big School and it was so much fun – everyone was talking, bonding and laughing, we all couldn’t stop smiling at all the funny stories people shared. After we ate, we all snuggled in to watch the movie, ‘High School Musical’, and it was hilarious singing and trying to dance along to all the songs.
The following day, we were all very excited as it was Society Sunday. The societies ranged from Bee Society (where we made candles out of beeswax), to Scuba-Diving Society, where we geared up with full equipment and had a dive in the DSC pool. In the evening, most of the year went to watch the mock law trial in Fisher Library down at School, whilst the rest of the UIII stayed in House and spent time doing some arts and crafts.’

Anaya:
‘The societies were both inspiring and engaging, offering a glimpse into the wide range of talents and passions pupils bring to school life. Some pupils took part in Politics Society, contributing confident discussions where debates quickly developed into sharp, thoughtful exchanges and powerful speaking. The Art Society showcased remarkable creativity, with pieces that reflected individual personality and inspiration, especially during the tie-dye activity, which burst with colour!

Each society brought energy, enthusiasm and dedication, making it clear that the UVI Heads of Societies put a great deal of effort into making the day amazing!’

The fun-filled weekend was followed by another jam-packed term of activities that the Weekend Activities team cannot wait to deliver to the girls!
