Remembrance Services

Poppies in the altar.

In a solemn and heartfelt display of respect and remembrance, pupils and staff gathered in the Chapel for services on both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, led by Padre Paul. These services were an opportunity for the entire School community to come together, honouring the memory of those who have given their lives in conflicts past and present.

Both services were deeply emotive and rich with tradition. Padre Paul and a number of pupils contributed to the Service through prayers, readings, and reflections that underscored the sacrifice of countless individuals who served in the armed forces. The stillness in the Chapel during the two minutes created a profound sense of unity and shared gratitude, binding the community in a collective moment of reverence.

At the close of the Remembrance Sunday service, the act of remembrance took on a poignant, personal dimension. Each individual was invited to approach the altar and lay down their poppy. As each person placed their poppy, the altar became a communal tribute, a vivid reminder of the cost of peace and the importance of remembrance.

Many thanks to Padre Paul for running such smooth and moving services.

‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.’
