Our School Values: Service
19 May 2026 - All

We place a real emphasis on the value of Service at Wycombe Abbey, particularly for our Sixth Formers, who all undertake voluntary service in the local community. This is primarily through a weekly placement at one of our partner primary schools. Aspiring medical applicants also complete weekly service at one of our partner care homes or nurseries, including Rye View Manor, Shelburne Lodge, Bowerdean Nursery.
Our pupils are privileged to receive an exceptional academic education at Wycombe Abbey, but we believe such intellectual training is incomplete without us inculcating important values of Service, such as the sharing of knowledge and attending to those in the local community who will benefit from our pupils’ support. Many of our Sixth Formers become one-to-one reading mentors at their placements, while others take part in a parallel weekly Literacy Mentoring Scheme run with Cressex Community School.
Furthermore, our LVI pupils organise and run enrichment classes for local Year 5 pupils on Sunday mornings, introducing them to Classics, German and Social Sciences, as well as Music and Maths enrichment. Through this work, pupils gain a meaningful sense of participation in the diverse community of High Wycombe.
This approach fulfils the original aims of our founder, Dame Frances Dove, who believed that our girls need to be out in the local community, giving back and contributing to wider society to become well-rounded individuals. In this sense, Partnerships work is fundamental to our pupils’ experience at Wycombe Abbey and is something of which we, as a School, are very proud.
