National SPoKE Competition Success

Catherine (LVI) was recently awarded second place in the national SPoKE competition. This is an art documentary competition where participants make a seven-minute film on any art work of their choice. Catherine’s film on Gillian Wearing’s photograph ‘I’m Desperate’ explored how far we can know a person just from their appearance, and how signs and slogans have been used to articulate our identity. The judges included art historians and film directors, all of whom were very impressed by Catherine’s own take on the work by asking members of the public to display their own signs revealing what was currently on their mind. Catherine was presented with a certificate and will receive a cheque for £100.
