LVI Politics Students Gain First hand Insight at Westminster Conference.

On Monday 24 November, Wycombe Abbey’s LVI Politics A Level classes attended a major Politics Conference at the Methodist Central Hall in Westminster, London.
Amalia (LVI) shared her experience from the trip:
‘The day offered a rare chance to hear directly from some of the most prominent and contrasting figures in modern British politics. Speakers ranged from Green Party leader Zack Polanski and Reform UK’s deputy leader Richard Tice to Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Olney, and Stephen Flynn of the SNP.
Across the day’s presentations and question and answer sessions, pupils engaged with debates on issues such as the future of political parties and the evolving relationship between Parliament and the public. Discussions became particularly animated around the Equality Act and controversial topics like abortion. The rise of polarisation and heightened partisanship – key themes shaping the national conversation – was clear, with several speakers prompting passionate and, at times, sharply divided reactions from Sixth Formers nationwide.

Despite the ideological differences on display, the conference gave us a valuable opportunity to see thought-provoking and challenging political discourse in action, and all of us left Westminster feeling inspired and more informed on contemporary politics in the UK.’
Pa-Mai (LVI) also reflected on the experience, sharing that, ‘It was fascinating to listen to influential voices presenting their perspectives and campaign ideas. The lively question and answer sessions, with questions from both the crowd and our own peers, made the experience even more engaging. Overall, the trip was a great learning experience which helped us expand our knowledge of UK politics for our A level course.’
A big thank you to everyone who helped organise the trip.
