LVI French Debating Success
12 February 2026 - All

In early February, four LVI pupils took part in the prestigious French debating competition known as the Joutes Oratoires Lycéennes. This rigorous competition requires Sixth Form pupils to debate in pairs against other schools, entirely in French.
Annika, Sula, Marta and Tracy were excellent representatives for Wycombe Abbey at the competition, debating with poise, confidence and conviction on the night, not to mention an impressive level of linguistic accuracy. Annika and Sula swiftly advanced to the semi-finals and then finals of the competition, with convincing wins over UVI teams from Highgate and John Hampden Grammar School.

In the final, they beat an UVI team from Beaconsfield High School, arguing for the motion: ‘social media is harmful to democracy’.
Annika and Sula will therefore advance to the National French Debating Finals, held on Tuesday 24 March at the Institut Français in London.
Bon courage, les filles !
