As part of the Sixth Form Carrington Programme, the girls have the privilege of attending numerous talks throughout the academic year, featuring an exciting and diverse lineup of speakers. These events are designed to inspire, challenge, and broaden their horizons, offering insights into a wide array of careers, experiences, and perspectives.

On Friday 15 November, we were delighted to welcome back Wycombe Abbey Senior Lissie Mackintosh (Airlie, 2018) to speak to the Sixth Form about her remarkable career as a Sports Journalist and Content Creator. Lissie delivered an engaging and inspiring talk, sharing her journey into the world of Formula 1, a field traditionally dominated by men. With great confidence and maturity, she recounted her early steps into this challenging arena, captivating the audience with fascinating anecdotes from her trailblazing career. Her message that young women should take risks, put themselves out there, and be open to new career paths, truly resonated with our Sixth Form.

A particularly enjoyable part of her talk was when Lissie shared fond memories of her time at Wycombe Abbey. She reflected on her experiences as a pupil, reminiscing about house events, friendships, and moments of personal growth, which drew smiles and laughter from the girls. These anecdotes created a special connection with the Sixth Form, who were able to see how much her school years meant to her and how they formed an important chapter of her life.

Lissie also shared her predictions about the future role of women in Formula 1, expressing optimism about increased representation and opportunities for women in the sport, both on and off the track.

The Sixth Form had a wide range of questions for Lissie, which she handled with aplomb. She willingly stayed half an hour later to chat with pupils, answer further questions, and take numerous selfies with the girls. Her warmth and approachability left a lasting impression.

It was an inspiring evening, both for our pupils and the staff who attended, many of whom expressed their pride in Lissie’s incredible achievements since leaving School. Her journey serves as a powerful example of what can be accomplished with determination, resilience, and an adventurous spirit.
