LineUp Clothing UK – A Tycoon Competition Team

Pupils in Lower Sixth have been taking part in the Peter Jones Foundation Encourage Programme: the Tycoon Competition. We currently have one team who are nearing the end of the competition and a few more teams continuing next term when they are all fully back in School.
Tycoon is a unique national enterprise competition for children aged 6 to 18. Every participating team writes a business plan, is lent money, starts a business and trades, competing with other student companies through a sophisticated kickstarter style platform, in a safe environment.
Below is a report from Wycombe Abbey’s LineUp Clothing UK, a clothing company designing and selling loungewear. LineUp Clothing UK is currently at the top of the national leader board for the competition. To help the team even further, they have been mentored by Wycombe Abbey Senior, Pippa Blakemore. Pippa is a business owner who set up The PEP Partnership in 1985 and she has been offering support and guidance to the LineUp Clothing UK team since the start of the academic year via the Seniors mentoring programme.
As a result of the Tycoon competition, run by the Peter Jones Foundation, we founded our clothing company LineUp Clothing UK. As we have been facing lockdown measures for essentially a year now, and so we wanted to create loungewear that is not only extremely comfortable but also adds some excitement to the very monotonous days.
We are currently selling tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirts which are available to buy either separately or as a pair for a reduced price, all of which are embroidered with designs drawn by ourselves. We soon plan to expand into different items of clothing – keep your eyes peeled!
We have faced many challenges throughout the process and have felt that this has been an invaluable learning experience for us – gaining knowledge in starting a company and producing goods in a real-world context. We have loved the experience so much that we are sure that we will be continuing this project after the competition has finished. We are so proud of how far we have come, and we hope that you love our products as much as we do.
