From Lacrosse Sticks to T-Rexs – UIII’s First Activity Day Adventure.

At the end of September, the whole School took part in a range of enriching trips and interactive learning experiences as part of Activity Day. Here’s what UIII got up to.

‘Our first Activity Day was all about lacrosse. We had a bright and early start and were out on the pitches by 9:00am. The day was filled with different stations to help us along our lacrosse journey such as shooting, passing, defending and attacking. After learning new skills and doing lots of drills, we used everything we’d been taught in a coached tournament which was definitely the highlight! It was a day packed with teamwork and fun, and by the time we got back, we headed straight to bed without a peep!

The next morning, we set off for a trip to the Oxford Natural History Museum. At first, we thought it wouldn’t be as exciting as Lacrosse Day. We were wrong. It felt like stepping back in time! We got to hold real fossils, sharks’ jaws and teeth and even live Madagascan cockroaches, although some of us were a bit too scared to touch those! A big favourite was the colossal T-Rex, towering over us like a monarch, standing on its powerful legs, with a massive tail swinging behind. It’s mouth was filled with sharp, dagger-like teeth that glistened and gleamed under the lights.

In the Pitt Rivers Museum, we saw tribal masks, incredible artefacts and hundreds of cool specimens.  We continued to explore more of the museum whilst filling in fun worksheets about the animals and displays. We also did lots of sketches which, later this term, we’ll be using to turn into hand-sewn pillow designs during class.

Overall, both days were absolutely fantastic. The trip not only taught us things we cannot learn in the classroom, but also reminded us of the importance of curiosity and stepping out into the real world to explore. We learned so much, had loads of fun and grew even closer as a year group. Thank you so much to all the teachers who made our first Activity Days so special. We can’t wait for all the future adventures!’

To put their strengthened bonds to the test, UIII then took on a creative team challenge. Using sticks, branches and natural materials they gathered from around the grounds, they worked together to construct a mighty den in front of the Abbey. It was a true test of teamwork and communication and the results were something they were all very proud of.
