Last weekend, we hosted our annual Highlights dance show, showcasing incredible performances from pupils across all year groups. From contemporary to classical, the talent and passion on stage were truly exceptional.

This year’s Highlights was a truly special experience for our Dance Captains, marking their final performance at Wycombe Abbey. The show was a testament to months of dedication, creativity, and teamwork. Read their reflections on their experience below.

My last Highlights has been so special. We’ve gained an insight into how much effort it takes to run such a big show, and I’ve really enjoyed the organisational side, despite the pressure. Choreographing pieces has taught me a lot about adaptability and how to change choreography at the last minute! I’m so grateful to all the dancers for their hard work over the last six months. This entire experience, especially the weekend, has been unforgettable! – Maya (UVI), Modern Dance Captain

Participating in dance at Wycombe Abbey has been the best decision I made. I’ve built lifelong connections and developed my dance ability. Being responsible for the organisation and choreographing a piece made Highlights even more meaningful. It’s been emotional reflecting on my time here, especially performing for the last time with such special people. The dance teachers make it all possible, and I’m so grateful for them. Thank you to everyone who watched—we hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we did performing! – Izzy (UVI), Dance Captain

Performing at Highlights this year was one of my favourite memories at Wycombe Abbey. I always looked forward to rehearsals and enjoyed choreographing my ballet piece, which was both exciting and daunting. It helped me connect with the other dancers and appreciate the close-knit dance community. I’ll miss the backstage moments and the support from everyone. Seeing it all come together on stage with amazing lighting and costumes was special, and dancing with UVI in Clarence Academy made our final year even more memorable. – Suzette (UVI) Ballet Captain

The entire street dance experience has been amazing and is one of my favourite Wycombe Abbey moments. Leading the team, making new friends, and working together through spontaneous rehearsals was unforgettable. From cutting the music to assembling formations, it all culminated in the Highlights performance. It’s been a memorable journey, and I’ll cherish it forever. A huge thank you to my teammates and staff for making this experience possible! – Astrid (UVI), Dance Captain

The show was a tremendous success, bringing immense joy to both the performers and the audience. Many thanks to the Dance Captains for their dedication to dance at Wycombe Abbey over the years. We can’t wait to see what next year’s Highlights brings!
