On Friday 28 November, we were delighted to welcome Demetra Pinsent, CEO of beauty brand Charlotte Tilbury, as this year’s speaker for our annual Headmistress’ Christmas Lecture.
UVI pupils, Todi and Eliza, shared their thoughts on the evening:
‘The whole auditorium was captivated by Demetra’s inspiring speech, as she reflected on her teenage aspirations to become a surgeon, her work as a management consultant and finally her leadership of Charlotte Tilbury since its inception in 2012.
From finding a niche in the highly competitive beauty market to navigating day-to-day challenges, it was enlightening to gain insights from such an accomplished and ambitious businesswoman. With energy and eloquence, Demetra demonstrated the importance of unapologetically pursuing one’s passions and finding the courage to take risks in the face of uncertainty.
We came away from the talk with a profound sense of admiration for the dedication that goes into the beauty products that many of us know and love. But more importantly, we were encouraged to embrace opportunities with curiosity, openness and confidence – advice that we’ll carry into our professional lives.
In all, it was a remarkable evening, and we are truly grateful to Demetra Pinsent and the Wycombe Abbey staff who organised it.’
Following her talk, pupils had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion, gaining insights they will carry forward in their own careers. The talk made a significant impression, inspiring reflections on ambition, resilience and leadership.
